OFFICER INTERVENES WITH SUICIDE ATTEMPT

A uniformed Riverside Police School Resource Officer in a marked vehicle was in the area of Newport Road and Interstate 215 in Menifee when she observed a female attempting to jump off the freeway overpass.

Officer Jennifer Brandt saw a female on the south side of the Newport Road overpass above the northbound lanes of Interstate 215. The female was attempting to jump over the waist high guardrail. The female’s right leg was over the rail and two bystanders were attempting to hold her back as she was lunging forward. Officer Brandt immediately exited her patrol car, assessed the situation and took control. Officer Brandt quickly grabbed the female by her arms and coordinated the bystander’s efforts. With the help of the bystanders, Officer Brandt pulled the young woman back over the rail and onto the ground where she was detained pending a mental health evaluation.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived shortly after and assumed the investigation.
